We just traded in a 2008 Ford F250 Crew Cab 4x4 with the 6.4 liter twin turbo diesel, automatic transmission.

On the test drive we perceived a lack of performance compared to the Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab 4x4 with the Duramax and Allison Transmission.

Specs are nearly identical for HP and torque. The Ford sports twin turbo's and the Chevy sports the Allison transmission.

We decided to try an unofficial acceleration test. We chose to do a 0-60 test so not to break any laws. After ensuring the road was clear in all directions we hit it. I was driving the Ford with one passenger and the driver of the 08 Ford also had a passenger The Chevy is completely stock and I believe the Ford was stock as well.

The Chevy took an immediate lead and continued to pull away throughout the distance. I estimate the Chevy had a 75'-90' lead by the time we hit 60. It wasn't just a win for the Chevy it was a stone-cold whipp'in.

As to the question of why this was such a huge win for Chevy, seeing that the Ford has near identical specs, beats me. I imagine the Allison transmission is part of it but the difference was so big I think there has to be more to the equation.

I searched the internet and our test seems to match other reports.

Did I mention the Silverado Crew Cab diesel 4x4 is also faster than any production gas truck built by Toyota, Honda or Nissan?
