4.5 Liter Duramax Diesel News
As the former "Diesel Suburban guy" I have watched with great interest
anything from GM that implies we will see another Diesel Suburban.
1999 was the last year for the diesel "Burb" so it's been a while.
While it's not imminent, I believe it is coming.
Here is a 2010 4.5 Liter Diesel Suburban Prototype
Here's what I know
It's going in the Hummer H2, 1500 Silverado's and 1500 Sierra's.
It's a V8
Supposedly fits in any of our rear wheel drive vehicles that currently run a 5.3 liter gas motor.
Here's what I think,
(This is based on my opinion only which is nothing more than an uneducated guess)
Rated to produce 310 horsepower and 520 lb-ft of torque
It will be 2010 before we see it
They won't be able to build enough engines to meet demand
(estimate 94,000 motors a year)
If they can't meet demand in the trucks it will delay everything else by a few years
They estimate a 25% increase in fuel economy over the gas engine.
I think real world #'s could be higher
The transmission will be the 6 speed automatic, 6L90E
It will be about a $4,500-$5,500 option
And my biggest "what I think"
It will be a huge hit as long as the additional cost for the diesel doesn't get out of control.
If and when it goes into a Suburban it will be a huge shot in the arm for what I consider
the finest vehicle on the road for any amount of money.
