7/16/04 The latest scoop says the Duramax Suburban will come out in 2008. I have decided to not hold my breath. Maybe GM could pursue a Hybrid Subrban in the meantime but I have no info. on that topic other than we will get a few Hybrid Silverado trucks this fall.

1/13/03 According to a GM contractor that gave us a snapshot of the future, there will be NO Duramax/Allison Suburban. It seems the motor and tranny will not fit unless they raise the body 2" and they are concerned with drive-ability if they raise the truck. They have plans to build a 6 cyl Duramax diesel for the Suburban but there is no timeline. Bottom line, unless something changes there will not be a another diesel Suburban in the near future. I thought we would have one in late 2003 or 2004 but now it doesn't look good. If anyone has more info. on the subject let me know. Updated (1/13/03) Read on-The news is not so bleak.

2/16/02 I am going to see if I can come up with an e-mail address for GM so that we, the Diesel Suburban fans of America (unofficially) can send messages expressing our displeasure with their plans. They (GM) said the are worried that raising the truck 2" might cause drive-ablity problems, (It makes me giddy to think of a Suburban raised up another 2") sounds like a pretty lame excuse.

2/16/02 I would like offer my assistance to GM in their time of trouble. I volunteer to be an official tester of a K2500HD 4x4 Duramax/Allison Suburban that has been raised 2". My limitless generosity allows me to accept the great peril associated with this undertaking. I would agree to drive this vehicle for the next 12 months at no charge to GM, I am that kind of guy! Yes, I am a dreamer.

3/19/02 You can e-mail the Chevrolet Communications Director for Suburbans. His name is Randy Fox. Very nicely explain (I really do hope you send a nice e-mail or I will probably hear about it down here in Pensacola) to Randy how much we really want the Duramax Suburban. randal.l.fox@gm.com

3/21/02 Here is a response from Chevrolet to one of the Diesel Sub fans
Patrick -- At this time, Chevy does not have plans to offer the Duramax Diesel in the 1500 or 2500 Series Suburban. It's a production capacity issue that were having to deal with that prohibits us from offering it. Randy Fox, Chevy Communications.

5/14/02 If you have been watching and waiting for the price of the diesel Suburban to go down you may want to buy now. All indications I am getting are prices are going up. The last 5 diesels Subs and about 10 of the last 12 diesel Subs I have tried to get are wholesaling to other dealers for about the same price as I am selling my trucks to you. So, needles to say I did not buy them but at some point soon I will have to pay the higher price. A couple of weeks ago I sold the 30k mile Sub. for $26,450 and it's twin brother wholesaled to a GMC dealer that same day for $27,200 plus the auction fee, plus shipping plus the cost of running it through their shop. The will have a cost of about $28,000 on their truck. The diesel Sub. is a rare beast and I don't know of anything on the market holding it's value as well as these have over the past 18 months. I have gotten to know many of you over the past several month through e-mail and phone calls so I wanted you to know. Have a great week.

5/17/02 For great info. On the diesel Suburban go to: www.thedieselpage.com

7/6/02 $2,500 rebates on Brand New Suburban (GAS ONLY, there is no New Diesel Sub.) for a limited time. With the rebate I can sell a brand new Gas Sub. for about $8,000 off window sticker. If you are considering gas, now is the time.

8/16/02 I had a customer of mine pass this info. to me (Thanks Rich) "I wanted to pass along a bit of information that I recently uncovered. Many folks
assume that the transfer case in the newer Suburbans is the NP241. If the truck has the Auto-Loc (or automatic 4x4) option, it is a NV246 case instead. As a heads-up, Gear Vendors does not currently make an over/under drive unit for the NV246. This version isn't planned for release until late '03."

8/21/02 The GM rep. was here again yesterday and told me the newest hold up on the Duramax Suburban is they are having trouble getting the heater to work in the back of the Suburban. Don't ask me why because I can't understand how that could be a problem. He also said he did say there was a lot of buzz about Ford getting rid of the Excursion. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

1/13/03 I am getting frustrated with the lack of diesel Suburban availability. Hopefully it will break soon but I have my doubts. I talked to the GM rep over the Christmas holidays and he seemed to think we would see a Duramax Suburban sometime in 2004. I will not start holding my breath yet.
